ACTIVITIES

Game drives are led by knowledgeable and experienced Guides.  Upfront of the vehicle, Trackers assist by performing the ancient art of tracking either by form of spoor or in the thickets of the surrounding bush.  This duo of Guide and Tracker will astonish guests with their skill in perusing all forms of sightings and showcasing what nature has to offer, in search of the Big 5; Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino, Lion and the elusive Leopard as well as the little creatures and insects who all play a viral role. Game drives are set around the best suited times of the day to maximize the number of sightings.  The early morning adventure starts directly after enjoying a cup of tea or coffee on the deck.  Approximately 05h30 in the morning in summer and 06h00 in the winter months.  The search for game is briefly interrupted with a stop at sun-rise for tea or coffee and a snack before continuing on the African adventure and returning the lodge for a much needed breakfast / brunch. Afternoon game drives traditionally start at around 16h00 in the summer and 15h30 during the winter months with the main focus being on finding nocturnal animals and perhaps even a pride of Lions on the hunt.  A truly remarkable and never-to-forget experience is the afternoon stop for sundowner drinks whilst watching the spectacular African sun set over the mountains on a clear evening,  Drives will continue and guests will return to a warm welcome at the lodge at around 19h30 to freshen up for the evening’s events.

The ultimate connect, up-close-and-personal with the African bushveld on foot in search of the finer details not always visible from the safari vehicle.  Walks last around 1h30 minutes. ​Guides and Trackers lead the way, with Trackers often taking the time to entrust guests with life-long secrets handed down generations about the bush and the many medicinal wonders available from what may seem like simple plants or trees and which leaves are best suited for emergency bathroom relief.  Plains game feature strongly during walks and guests are frequently challenged to a “bokdroll” spitting competition, a memory to last a lifetime. A minimum age requirement is 16 years for this activity however participation is at the discretion of your guide.

Guides will always consider the special interests of guests during drives and walks, getting as close as possible for that perfect shot. ​ For photographic purposes, it is recommended – when available, guests book a private vehicle which will allow for more time spent on select sightings specifically where birding is the main interest. An African Safari with close encounters will be permanently etched in your memory.
